Venture X Canada joins the fight against COVID-19 by kicking off the Tech 4 Learning fundraising campaign

Venture X Canada is fundraising to deliver 10,000 learning devices to Peel students

Mississauga, April 7, 2020 –Released today, the Tech 4 Learning fundraising campaign is aimed at helping students and families in need who don’t have access to a computing device to support their learning from home, as school boards across Ontario begin distance learning. The campaign will be launched in partnership with the Peel District School Board (PDSB) and will be supported by Toronto Foundation.

The campaign urges Peel businesses and residents to donate money and devices to support online learning for all students in the region.

The COVID-19 crisis has disrupted the education of millions of students. Providing access to a computer, laptop or tablet, and a high speed internet connection will help support students who will be engaging in distance learning. Every student must have access to learning so that all learning needs are met. A recent estimate by PDSB indicates that there are at least 10,000 students in the Peel Region who lack a computing device and/or an internet connection.

“As a working father of five children, it’s an unplanned expense to buy a computer or an iPad to support them with learning from home. I can’t imagine the added stress on many parents in this crisis who now have to worry about finding extra money for a computer or wifi. We have to work together to help give children equitable access to learning and to support the Ontario Together program. We are stronger together.” says Anas Saltaji, Chief Operating Officer, Venture X Canada.

“We are all in this together and as the head of a Mississauga based business, I feel it is my responsibility to serve the community of Mississauga and Ontario. I am not a doctor, nurse, food supplier or a pharmacist—the real heroes of today—but I do know the importance of equal access to education for our children. This is why Venture X Canada decided to kick start this campaign with 1000 computing devices already purchased from Microcad.” remarks the CEO of Venture X Canada, Saleh Al Aroud.

The target of this campaign is to get 10,000 working computing devices for children in the Peel District School Board in the shortest time possible.

Venture X Canada is actively inviting the participation and donations from any equipment suppliers interested in helping to ensure that no student is left behind. We are also inviting other businesses to join this campaign so that together we can reach our target. We also invite the participation from residents of Peel who may have used devices in good working order that they wish to donate.

It is with great pleasure that Venture X Canada will be facilitating the PICK UP of any donated devices so that no one has to leave their home to support this campaign. Please visit our website for more information: www.venturexcanada.ca/tech4learning

Toronto Foundation is our charity partner that will receive all the monetary donations and ensure that the funds are granted to PDSB.
